How to compare a Korean name in Roman letters
Start by confirming the actual surname, especially if two-syllable surnames are possible. Then compare surname spellings and the spelling of each given-name syllable.
The score helps order surname options. A generated spelling is a comparison aid; if a passport already exists, check its recorded name before filling in a ticket or other document.
For personal names, the National Institute of Korean Language’s Romanization rules put the surname before the given name and allow a hyphen between given-name syllables. For passport applications, check the separate Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance. Both source documents are in Korean.
